Riding Lesson Program
Hanover Stables has a full service lesson program for beginners to advanced riders. We specialize in beginner to advanced riders! We focus on instilling the basic foundation of skills for fun & enjoyable riding. Our quality lesson horses are able to accommodate all levels & sizes for riders ages six to adult.
Lesson options and prices:
Lessons are offered seven days a week in English and western.
- $45 for a 1 hour private lesson
- $35 for a 1 hour semi-private lesson (initial ride and pairing up with another student)
Lesson time includes tacking, grooming time and riding. As students become more independent their grooming and tacking time will shorten.
You will begin with a private lesson that will judge your level & capabilities. As you advance, you will progress onto new horses with new challenges. Once you can work independently on the rail you may change to a group lesson with another rider at the same skill level.
Hanover Stables Trainers
Terri Martin – Barn Manager / Senior Instructor
I’m Terri Martin, native of Castle Hayn since 1979 when I moved here with my family and various dogs, horses, and cats.
My first horse show was the 1980 Azalea Festival. I fell off, was on the wrong lead in every class and won nothing… I was hooked!!!
I went to martin Community College for the Equine Technology Program. I then went to Wakefield Farm where I worked with open hunters & jumpers. From there I have done everything from Saddlebreds to Arabian racehorses.
I spent 22 years in the breedshow Apaloosa world where I produced many top 5 and top 10 students and horses in every all around class as well as top 5, top 10 and Reserve National Champion at the Nationals & World.
Horses have always been a part of my life. I hope to be able to bring the joy, companionship, learning and relationship of horse and rider to every one of my students.
Taylor Burke McLean – Instructor
Taylor has ridden since the age of 5 and has been a trainer/lesson instructor for the past 12 years in Wilmington, NC. She has competed in gaming, hunter jumper, equitation, hunter in hand, western pleasure and showmanship divisions throughout North Carolina. She graduated from UNCW with a Bachelors in Education.
Taylor continues to show and compete herself. She has prepared her students to compete in schooling shows, State Fair and “C” rated shows over the past 12 years. She takes pride in taking her kids to shows and seeing the progress they have made and how far they have come. She has had many of the same clients for years! Taylor has also been a leader of a 4H club in Wilmington in 2012-2013 and runs summer camp every year.
Taylor structures her lessons to teach both horse and rider to become a team and communicate effectively. Students are taught to have a strong/solid lower leg, correct seat/upper body positioning both on the flat and over fences. Taylor is well known in the Wilmington and surrounding areas and has many great references from both past and present clients.
